Training Price List

If you passed your car driving test after January 1st 1997 you will need to take a test to drive a vehicle with a maximum permitted weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes. .

A goods vehicle licence up to a maximum of 7.5 tonnes requires the driver to hold an LGV C1 licence. If you are over 21 you can alternatively take the LGV C test which enables you to also drive Rigid vehicles.

  • If you want to tow a Horsebox Trailer and you passed your car test after January 1st 1997, you will have to take a car and trailer test, category B+E.

  • If you want to tow a Trailer behind a Horsebox you will have to take a Lorry and Trailer test category C1+E or a 7.5 tonne horsebox or category C+E for a larger horsebox.

    If you passed your driving test prior to January 1st 1997 you can drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnesC1 tow a trailer with a car, B+E, and tow a small trailer only with a 7.5 tonne vehicle C1+E restriction 107, 8250kg.

    The vehicle must be;

    • Boxed/curtain sided
    • 8 metres in length
    • 2.4 metres wide

    And have;

    • 8 forward gears
    • A Tachograph
    • ABS as standard
    Course Requirements

    Step 1

    Have a Drivers Medical to prove you are physically fit to drive a Large Goods Vehicle, Complete a D4 form obtainable from our centre or online http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/forms/d4.pdf.

    Step 2

    Obtain your Provisional Licence. Having completed forms D2 & D4 send them with your licence to the DVLA in the enclosed envelope, we recommend you send it recorded/registered delivery. Your licence with provisional entitlement will normally be returned within 2 to 4 weeks.

    Step 3

    Pass the theory test. This is carried out at local test centres and made up of two test; Test 1 is 100 multiple choice questions and Test 2 is a 19 clip hazard perception.

    Course Duration

    The training consists of a 3-day one to one tuition or a 5-day shared course with another student. The course will commence each morning at 8.30am with a test on the 3rd or 5th day of the course.

    Test Criteria
    • Answer approximately 5 questions on basic vehicle checks.
    • Reverse into a marked bay.
    • Controlled brake test.
    • Drive for approximately 1 hour. Test may also include hill starts and motorway driving.
